Fitting Foundayo into daily life in the UAE: timing, travel and missed doses
Eligible adults have been able to access Foundayo (orforglipron) weight loss tablets in the UAE since May 2026. Foundayo is taken as one tablet a day. It acts on the GLP-1 receptor, the same target as weekly GLP-1 injections. Acting on this receptor helps to regulate appetite and food intake.
In the UAE, Foundayo carries an Emirates Drug Establishment approval for chronic weight management. In the US, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted approval on 1 April 2026.
Once treatment has been prescribed, the questions that follow are often practical. A daily tablet has to fit around working hours, family commitments, business travel, the summer heat and, for many families, Ramadan. The FDA prescribing information gives guidance on timing, missed doses and storage.
Choosing a time of day that you can keep
The FDA prescribing information states that Foundayo can be taken with or without food. Eli Lilly, the manufacturer, adds in its patient information that the tablet can be taken at any time of day. This gives more flexibility than oral medications that must be taken on an empty stomach.
The tablet is swallowed whole. The half-life of Foundayo is around 29 to 49 hours, which is why one tablet a day is enough. Levels in the body become steady after around one week of daily use.
A fixed daily time is often easier to remember. Linking the tablet to an existing habit, such as breakfast or the evening meal, can help you take it consistently on busy days.
Starting at a low dose and increasing in steps
Treatment begins at 0.8 mg once daily. The prescribing information sets a minimum of 30 days at each dose before any increase. Doses are available at 0.8 mg, 2.5 mg, 5.5 mg, 9 mg and 14.5 mg, with 17.2 mg as the highest.
Your doctor will decide with you whether and when to increase the dose, based on your response and how well you tolerate the medication. Some patients reach their goals on a lower dose. Your doctor will tailor the dose you stay on to your individual response.
ATTAIN-1, a large Phase 3 clinical trial, enrolled adults living with obesity or overweight. Those taking the top dose of Foundayo lost around 12% of their body weight on average. Some participants lost around 15% or more. These results were measured over 72 weeks of daily treatment.
What to do if you miss a dose of Foundayo
The prescribing information recommends taking a missed dose as soon as you remember. It also states that a dose should never be doubled to make up for a missed one.
A longer gap calls for a different approach. After seven or more missed doses, the prescribing information advises restarting at a lower dose. In that situation, contact your doctor before taking the next tablet, as restarting at your previous dose may increase side effects.
A daily phone reminder can help, particularly during weeks with travel or irregular working hours.
Storing Foundayo in the UAE heat
Foundayo tablets do not need to be kept in a fridge. The US prescribing information lists a storage temperature of 20°C to 25°C. The leaflet supplied with your pack remains the reference for the product you receive.
In the UAE, heat is the main storage concern. Summer temperatures are often well above 25°C. The inside of a parked car can become much hotter than the air outside. Leaving the pack in a car or in direct sunlight is best avoided.
Travelling with Foundayo
When flying, keeping the tablets in hand luggage means they stay with you if checked bags are delayed. Rules on carrying medication differ between countries. It is worth checking the rules of your destination and carrying a copy of your prescription.
If you are crossing several time zones, your doctor or pharmacist can advise on how to adjust the timing of your tablet.
Planning Foundayo around Ramadan
Because Foundayo can be taken with or without food, it can often be taken at a consistent time during Ramadan, such as at suhoor or iftar. The most suitable time depends on how you tolerate the medication and on any other treatment you take.
Patients with type 2 diabetes who also use insulin or a sulfonylurea need an individual plan, because fasting can affect the risk of low blood sugar. A review with your doctor a few weeks before Ramadan allows time to agree on that plan.
Managing side effects in a hot climate
Digestive side effects, such as nausea, constipation, diarrhoea or vomiting, may be more noticeable in the weeks after a dose increase. Not every patient experiences them. Eating smaller meals and stopping when you feel full can help some patients with nausea.
Regular water intake through the day is important in the UAE climate. Vomiting or diarrhoea can lead to dehydration, particularly in hot weather. If nausea or constipation persists, your doctor can slow the pace of dose increases or prescribe medication to relieve the symptoms.
The UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) advises people taking GLP-1 medications that severe stomach pain spreading to the back, which does not go away, needs urgent help. Seek medical advice immediately if this occurs.
Keeping the routine connected to medical follow-up
Foundayo works alongside nutrition, physical activity, sleep and stress management, not in place of them. Follow-up appointments allow your doctor to review your progress, side effects and dose.
Body composition analysis can add useful information at these visits. It estimates body fat, muscle mass and body water. Repeating the analysis over time helps your doctor see how your body is changing beyond the number on the scale.
Starting a GLP-1 medication is a decision for a doctor and a patient together, not one to make alone. A medical review is essential to make sure the treatment is safe and appropriate for the individual.
